In Africa, particularly in Senegal, women and girls face enormous difficulties during their periods. According to statistics published by the Ministry of National Education in 2013.<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t
    \n
  • More than half of primary schools lacked sanitation facilities. 52% of schools were not equipped with toilets and 59% had no access to water.<\/li>\n
  • 40% of girls aged 9 to 17 have missed school at least once a week due to a lack of sanitary facilities.<\/li>\n
  • This absenteeism has a negative impact on academic performance. In some cases,\u00a0<\/span>girls (11.2%) drop out of school because of the challenges they face during their periods<\/strong><\/span>.<\/li>\n
